“COLOURS OF SPRING”
INTRODUCTION
In this age of science and technology, people have started race for their survival in thesociety and to move with the pace of the time. This trend has shortened the time of thepeople for their recreation and entertainment. In this situation the only entertainmentremains the religious and social festivals. Basant or Vasant is a famous festival inthe Indian sub-continent. This is also called kite festival. In the early time it wasn’tconsidered or celebrated as festival but now it has become a big festivity in India andPakistan.

Basant means a festival at which kites are flew and people enjoy. Basically it isan Indian festival. This festival is celebrated on any date between January and February.In Sanskrit language Vasanta is one of the six seasons and Panchami is the fifth dayof Magh which is a Hindu month. There are some parts in sub continent where Basantis celebrated as most auspicious festival than any other like Ferozepur in India. As thespring starts the festivities of Basant are get started.

BASANT IN INDIA
The Basant festival is celebrated at the end of the winter season and at the start of thebeautiful spring season. It says good bye to winter and welcomes the spring in whichflowers are blossom and birds sing sweet songs. Basant is marked as the first festivalof the year so everyone tries to make it memorable and joyful. It is celebrated alloverIndia with great enthusiasm. People from all of every age enjoy the festival withoutgender discrimination. Specially boys, girls and children show more enthusiasm. at thisday people get up early in the morning and offer their holly rituals. After their sacredobligations, the festivity begins. Boys, girls, men, women and children wear yellowcolour dresses.

People buy the kites and strings in big quantity. Yellow colour is the signof auspiciousness and spirituality. The colours are not ended here; even food is colouredyellow with saffron. Different kind of sweet dishes are prepared and are exchanged withthe relatives specially Kesar Halva which is also in yellow colour. The people are gottogether and sing the sweet songs of spring. In India the day is dedicated to GoddessSarsvati who is the the Goddess of knowledge and learning.


BASANT IN PAKISTAN (JASHAN-E-BAHARAN)
The festivities of Basant festival are celebrated in Pakistan in their full swing. LikeFerozepur, Lahore is the centre point for the entertaining activities of Basant. Initially thefestival was celetrated in the outer sides of the city then it got more attention and becameone of the most important festivals in the city. Other than the city of Lahore there aresome other cities like Gujranwala, Faisalabad, Sialkot, Jhelum, Kasur and Rawalpindi/Islamabad where Basant is celebrated with great attraction. Same like India people wearyellow dresses, prepare foods for different taste but the colour it is tried that the colourof the dish must also be yellow.

Although the festival is celebrated allover Pakistan butLahore is famous for its Basant festivities in the world. The city of Lahore is now suchfamous that Indian stars from film industry also take part in the festival.During last few incidents of injuries and deaths has badly affected the festival.
The festivities of the festival and the colours of the spring invite you to come and enjoycherish and delightful voices of the people with joy.

PETRONAS TOWERS – MALAYSIA

“TWIN TOWERS”
INTRODUCTION

Patronas or Twin Towers of Malaysia are the world famous towers with beautiful architecture. These towers are situated in the Kuala Lumpur which is the capital city of Malaysia. Twin towers are the landmark of Kuala Lumpur along with the nearby Kuala Lumpur tower. Twin Towers of Malaysia were the tallest buildings of the world until 2004. This distinction remained with the towers for six years from 1998 to 2004 until surpassed by Taipei 101. But these towers are still the tallest twin towers in the world. The architecture of the towers is the reflection of the Islamic Art. Total height of the towers is 451.9 m which includes antennas while the roof of the towers is at the height of 378.6 m (1242 ft).

HISTORY

The construction of the towers was started in 1992 and was completed in 1998. At the date of completion it was the tallest building of the world. The design of the project was made by Cesar Pelli and Djay Cerico who are Argentine architects. The first challenge to build the buildings was the depth of the bedrock. These towers are standing on the deepest foundations in the world ever built. The foundation of the towers is 120 meter deep and it took almost a year to complete with massive requirements of concrete.

These towers have 88 floors and the material used for construction is the reinforced concrete. The façade of the towers is decorated with the glass and steel which resembles with the motifs found in Islamic art. Another thing which shows the Islamic influence is the Rub el Hizb which is a symbol used in Islamic art. The cross section of the towers is based upon the said symbol. These towers were not built by the same construction company. Tower 1 was completed by Hazama Corporation and tower 2 was built by Samsung C & T and Kukdong Engineering and Construction.


ATTRACTIONS

Petronas is an oil and gas company of Malaysia who are the builders of twin towers. These towers are infact commercial offices. Tower 1 is fully occupied by the Petronas and its subsidiaries while tower 2 is in the use of Petronas and some other world renowned companies. Other than the commercial importance of the towers and its beautiful architecture, there are places which attract the people to visit twin towers.

Suria KLCC

Suria KLCC is a premier shopping centre in Kuala Lumpur at the feet of the twin towers. You will find the luxury items here from all over the world, high street bands of the world are also here. So this is a wonderful place for shopping point of view. Attraction of Suria KLCC is not restricted to just shopping but you can find an art gallery here, an underwater aquarium, a philharmonic theatre and a science centre.


KLCC Park

KLCC park is another attraction attached to the twin towers. This park is spread over 17 acres and includes jogging and walking paths, a fountain that displays a marvelous light show, wading pools and playground for children.
SkybridgeTwin towers feature a skybridge on 41st and 42nd floors.

This is the highest two story bridge in the world. this was build for the convenience of the people who want to move between the two towers. This bridge is not attached to the main structure of the towers but it is designed in this way that it can slide in and out of the towers to prevent it from breakage against high speed winds. Visitors can enjoy the view of the Kuala Lumpur from the bridge but visitors can use only 41st floor bridge. This can be a great visit if you want to explore the new destinations around the globe and see beautiful architecture.

ABOUT FOOD STREET

If you are a food lover and want to enjoy different kinds of food then you have no best place other than the Food Street of Lahore in Pakistan. Food Street is located in Gawalmandi which is a famous cultural centre in Lahore. A marvelous place surrounded by the historic places like Landa Bazar, Mayo Hospital and Baansan wala Bazar and also has a history of its own.

The buildings around the Gawalmandi Food Street are centuries old and present the beautiful view of Kashmiri-Persian architecture. Undoubtedly Food Street in Lahore is a centre of traditional Pakistani food. The different about the food street is that it remains open for 24 hours and 7 days of the week except in the month of Ramadan. In the day time traffic is allowed to pass through the street while in the night it is closed for traffic. Although the city is famous for the good eating habits of the people and whole city offers a variety of food but food street has distinction in all and unparalleled in taste and environment.

Food Street has spread more colours to the coulourful life of Lahore. Visitors from all over Pakistan and even from abroad come to Food Street and enjoy the delicious desi food. The famous Desi dishes include Chicken Tikkah, Karahi Gosht, Fried Fish, Biryani, Chicken Channay etc. All the visitors who come to Lahore visit or try to visit the Food Street and have at least one time meal here. If you visit the place at night you will find the beautifully decorated buildings and a reflection of Asian culture. Buildings are very old but look beautiful when lights of different colours are thrown from different angels on them.


SURROUNDING ATTRACTIONS

Shopping has attracted the people specially women. For shopping lovers, another attraction of the Gawalmandi area is Anarkali Bazar which is the one of the oldest surviving markets in South Asia. This market was established about 200 years back. It becomes easy to have a wonderful meal in Food Street after a tiring shopping.If you are in Lahore and you have not visited the Food Street then your visit is not justified.
