PALM ISLANDS

INTRODUCTION

There are number of archipelagos in the world which are natural. Archipelago infact is a chain of islands. These natural archipelagos have their natural beauty which is unmatchable. On the other hand artificial archipelagos are rare. But the some which are are really beautiful. Same is the case with Palm Islands in Dubai. This is an archipelago in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. These islands are located off the coast of U.A.E in Persian Gulf. This chain of islands infact consists of three islands named Palm Jumeirah, Palm Jebel Ali and Palm Deira. Each island will be settled in the form of a palm tree. These islands are full of all kind of facilities required for life. These three islands will have 100 luxury hotels, specially designed beach villas and residential apartments, shopping malls, water parks, restaurants, spas, marinas and health facilities. There will be residential, entertainment and recreation centers in large number. These islands are made of rock and sand and first two projected islands composed of 100 million cubic meters of rock and sand while the third one which is named Palm Diera will be composed of 1 billion cubic meters of sand and rock.  With the development of these islands, 520 km of beach area will be added to the city of Dubai.

CONSTRUCTION

The construction of these islands is no doubt a challenging task. Nakheel Properties is the developer of this project while the marine contractors are Jan De Nul and Van Oord who are the world renowned specialists in land reclamation. The sand which they used in the construction of these peninsulas was dredged from Persian Gulf and sprayed on the required area using dredging ships. These ships are guided with DGPS and the process is called rainbowing. The outer edge of every settlement is a waterbreaker which is made of rocks. Each rock is placed by a crane. The construction of Palm Jebel Ali only used 210,000,000 cubic meters of rock, sand and limestone. Why not have the detailed virtual visit of these beautiful artificial islands.

PALM JUMEIRAH

All the three islands are in the shape of a palm tree. Palm Jumeirah also consists of a tree trunk with 16 fronds and a 11 kilometer long crescent which has surrounded the tree. Total area of the island is 5×5 kilometers. This island has 4000 residences. When the phase one ended there were 1400 villas complete and 2500 shoreline apartments which were built on the east side of the trunk. The Nakheel Properties has declared that the first residents will bring by one of the world’s largest airships to Dubai.

PALM JEBEL ALI

The construction of this island was started in October 2002. this project is 50 percent larger than the Palm Jumeirah. This island includes six marinas, a water theme park, and sea village and homes. Along the inner edge of the waterbreak of the island there is an Arabic poem spelling out.

PALM DEIRA

The construction of this island was announced in 2004 but no time frame was given for the completion of the project. This island will be 8 times larger than the Palm Jumeirah and 5 times larger than the Palm Jebel Ali. There are 41 fronds of this island and it is 14 km by 8.5 km island. It is projected that it will house one million people.

The portions which have been developed of all three islands are must see places. This is indeed an architectural wonder.
 
 

BURJ AL-ARAB – dubai

INTRODUCTION & LOCATION

This world is really an amazing creation but the man made creations have made this world more fanaticized which is all because of the blessings of God. Some creations are absolutely awesome. When you want to find such kind of masterpiece creations you arrive at Burj Al-Arab in Dubai which is one of these awe creations. This beautifully awesome hotel is located in United Arab Emirates on the coastline of Dubai. This beautiful building which is in the shape of sail of a ship has achieved tremendous attraction from all over the world and is considered as one of the most photographed structure in the world. Another important fact about this marvelous hotel is that it is the most luxurious hotel in the world. This tall and beautiful building dominates the skyline of Dubai with height of 321 m. Burj Al-Arab is the fourth tallest hotel in the world. This beautiful building is situated on an artificial island. When you reach the Jumeirah beach which was formerly known as Chicago Beach in Dubai and go 280 in the water with the help of private curving bridge, you reach infact at the most luxurious hotel in the world named Burj Al-Arab. This beautiful building is illuminated with dancing lights which represent water and fire. If we want to have the shortest introduction of the building then three words would be enough to describe the beauty. This great structure is simply individual, inspired and impressive.

CONSTRUCTION

Construction of the structure was started in 1994. the design of the building is impressed from the design of typical Arabian Vessel which is called Dhow. It looks like a sail of the dhow. It is designed in the shape of V with two wings open. The space between these two wings is enclosed in a massive atrium. The main objective of the construction of such a massive structure was to make Burj Al-Arab a trademark and symbolic statement for Dubai like we have Sydney Opera house and Eiffle Tower. The constructors of the building wanted to make it the synonymous with the name of the country. The architect of the building is Atkins and Murray & Roberts built the beautiful structure.

 


FEATURES

As the hotel is on an artificial island, it was really a challenge to secure the foundation of the building. For this purpose 230 piles which were forty meter long were drove in the sand. Burj Al-Arab is the second tallest hotel in the world. It is rightly the most luxurious hotel in the world. The interior of the building is just amazing. The rooms’ interior is a beautiful blend of east and west. White columns extinguish the beauty of the building. The interior of the bathrooms is decorated with mosaic tiles patterns. There are 202 bedroom suites in the building. The smallest suite covers 169 sq.m area while the largest covers 780 sq.m. The rates of the room rent vary from $1000 to $27000.


Al-Muntaha restaurant is located at height of 200m above the Persian Gulf and gives the view of Dubai. Burj Al-Arab is rated as five star deluxe hotel but it is frequently described as the world’s only seven star hotel.

INTRODUCTION

This world is indeed beautiful but some man made structures have made it even more. Some skyscrapers have been the trade mark of their countries. Burj Khalifa is also a skyscraper which is raised from the desert and provided the Dubai a new glow. This tallest building of the world is situated in the heart of Dubai and in the hearts of the people. When the project started it was given name Burj Dubai but before its inauguration it was declared Burj Khalifa. This name was given to honour the UAE president Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan for his tremendous support. The total cost of the project was $1.5 billion. This great architectural and engineering work is the result of Skidmore, Owings and Merill of Chicago. The main contractor of the project was Samsung C&T from South Korea. This is the world’s tallest structure with the residential space.

OBJECTIVE OF PROJECT

The development of this project is based on an objective. All of us know that the economy of the country is oil based. The government wanted shift from oil based economy to tourism and service based economy. This was being a great change and it required a big shift. For this purpose they approved a development project with the cost of $20 billion and which was named Downtown Dubai. Other than the construction of world’s tallest freestanding structure Burj Khalifa this project include 30,000 homes, 9 hotels, a parkland covering 3 hectares, 19 residential towers, Duabi mall and a man made lake named Burj Khalifa Lake which is spread over 12 hectares. This project has another distinction of bringing the title of world’s tallest structure back to Middle East after the Great Pyramid of Giza.


ATTRACTIONS

Burj Khalifa is no doubt an architectural masterpiece. The whole building is really a must see sight. This is not the whole attraction. Following are the some other attractions attached to the Burj Khalifa.


Dubai Fountain

Outside the building there is world’s longest fountain which is called Dubai Fountain. This fountain is 275m (902ft) long and throws the water 150 m or 490 ft in air. It is illuminated with 6,600 lights and 50 colour projectors are spreading the beautiful colours. Music from all over the world is played to cherish the atmosphere. This fountain was designed by Wet Design which is a California based company.


Observation Deck

At the 124th floor you will find the world’s second highest observation deck in the world. This is the world’s highest outdoor deck in the world at the height of 452 m. an other interesting feature of the building is the installation of Behold Telescope. This telescope allows the visitors to view the surroundings in real time and also facilitates to view the pictures which were previously saved during the day and in different weather conditions.


Burj Khalifa Park

Burj Khalifa Park is also a great attraction. The Burj Khalifa is surrounded by the Burj Khalifa Park and is spread over 11 hectares. The design of the park is based on the concept of Burj Khalifa which has resemblance with the desert flower Hymenocallis. At the center of the park there is a series of pools and fountains which extinguish the beauty of the park and of the Burj Khalifa. Additionally the park has a railing, benches, hymenocallis flowers in bulk and images of Burj Khalifa.

This is really a wonderful luxurious place to see.
