We have explored a number of tourist destinations in the world. This time we have planned to take you guys to Killarney which is a town in Ireland. This is really a beautiful destination to enjoy your vacations. Killarney is basically a town in southwestern Ireland. Killarney is the part of County Kerry which is one of the 32 counties of the Republic of Ireland. The location of the town is really beautiful. This beautiful town is in the north of mountain range which is called MacGillicuddy Reeks and on the other side it is on the northeastern shore of the Lough Lein Lake which is the largest lake in County Kerry among two others. Its surroundings are beautifully amazing. You will find a number of historical places, waterfalls, lakes and so many other things in the town. The main attractions in the surrounding are St. Mary’s Cathedral, Ross Castle, Muckross House and Abbey, Lakes of Killarney, Torc Waterfall and many other places.


TOURISM

Ireland is truly enjoying the benefit which it takes from the beauty of the town. Tourism is the largest industry in the town of Killarney. The tourist population of the town is diversified. Tourists mainly come from US, United Kingdom, Germany, Ireland and other European countries. It would be interesting for you guys to know that the tourism history of Killarney is not from today. It goes back to mid 18th century when Thomas who was the fourth Viscount Kenmare started to attract new residents and visitors from the world. Another thing enhanced the importance of the town which was the visit of Queen Victoria in1861. Ireland has enjoyed the fruits of this visit ever since. In Summer months the shopping centers and tourist attractions remain full of tourists. By understanding the importance of tourism in the town some shops have been established just for tourists. There are number of hotels, pubs and restaurants which serve you. Another important thing in Killarney is its jaunting cars which are horse drawn carts. The operators of these carts are called jarvies. Tourists can enjoy the ride of these jaunting cars and the jarvies provide the facilities of a tourist guide. Another enjoyable festivity in the town is the Killarney SummerFest. This festival is very famous and it offers indoor and outdoor concerts in which famous Irish and international actors participate.


LAKES OF KILLARNEY

In the town of Killarney the most famous and renowned scenic attractions are the Lakes of Killarney. These lakes are Lough Leane, Muckross Lake and Upper Lake. Among these three lakes Lough Leane is the largest and river Laune drains it. These lakes are located in the mountain ringed valley called Black Valley. There are number of historic, natural and religious interest on the lakes. Ladies View is the point which reflects the scenic beauty of the lakes and valleys.

KILLARNEY NATIONAL PARK

Another tourist attraction in Killarney is the Killarney National Park. This park covers an area of 102.89 sq.km. This park has the diversified ecosystem including lakes, oak and yew woodlands. Park remains open for the tourists throughout the year. Jaunting cars are available for visitors to take them in the park.

The main attractions in the park are Dinis Cottage, Muckross Abbey, Ladies View, Knockreer Demesne, Inisfallen Island, the Muckross Peninsula, Ross Castle & Ross Island, Torc Waterfall and Muckross House.
