Twin towers are the landmark of Kuala Lumpur along with the nearby Kuala Lumpur tower. Twin Towers of Malaysia were the tallest buildings of the world until 2004. This distinction remained with the towers for six years from 1998 to 2004 until surpassed by Taipei 101. But these towers are still the tallest twin towers in the world. The architecture of the towers is the reflection of the Islamic Art. Total height of the towers is 451.9 m which includes antennas while the roof of the towers is at the height of 378.6 m (1242 ft).

HISTORY

The construction of the towers was started in 1992 and was completed in 1998. At the date of completion it was the tallest building of the world. The design of the project was made by Cesar Pelli and Djay Cerico who are Argentine architects. The first challenge to build the buildings was the depth of the bedrock. These towers are standing on the deepest foundations in the world ever built. The foundation of the towers is 120 meter deep and it took almost a year to complete with massive requirements of concrete.

These towers have 88 floors and the material used for construction is the reinforced concrete. The façade of the towers is decorated with the glass and steel which resembles with the motifs found in Islamic art. Another thing which shows the Islamic influence is the Rub el Hizb which is a symbol used in Islamic art. The cross section of the towers is based upon the said symbol. These towers were not built by the same construction company. Tower 1 was completed by Hazama Corporation and tower 2 was built by Samsung C & T and Kukdong Engineering and Construction.
